| DOSTI Meeting for July ! |
The date is set for Wednesday July 29th from 6 to 8:30pm, at the 519 Community Centre, room 313.
The theme for this meeting will be “QUESTIONS from a HAT.” We’ll open the meeting as usual and then give everyone a chance to write down questions they have. The format will allow members to anonymously throw questions into a hat and I will serve as the moderator of the discussion to follow each question. Some of the questions could be about sexual health/behaviour, coming out, need for a resource, something occurring in the media, dispelling a myth, drug use, “queer culture”, bathhouses, HIV/AIDs, etc. The discussion can potentially be driven in a myriad of directions – it will be what the group makes of it.
The Questions from a Hat will likely go from 6 to 8pm; with some snacks and time to hang
out afterward.
Dosti strives to maintain an inclusive environment and a confidential space for all queer/trans/questioning South Asian men. Men of all ages are welcome to attend. Questions about the group can be directed to: desimen@asaap.ca |

| Dear PRIDE volunteers and participants: |
I’d like to extend a special thank you to all of those who helped in putting the float together and participating in the Pride Parade itself. The ongoing presence of the South Asian community in Pride Toronto not only reflects the diversity of our city but also serves as an avenue to create visibility in our own ethnic/religious communities with regard to sexual diversity. Those who did not march or dance on the float are very much appreciated in their support of ASAAP’s queer-focused initiatives.
Those who were able to visibly participate contributed in a way that likely normalized the experiences of many queer South Asians who are not able to openly identify as queer in their communities but were in the crowd or watching from home. So a BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!

| India decriminalizes homosexual sex |
 |
Gay rights activists show victory signs outside the High Court in New Delhi July 2, 2009. The Delhi High Court on Thursday ruled gay sex was not a crime, a verdict that will bolster demands by gay and health groups that the government scrap a British colonial law which bans homosexual sex.
Move will radically change life for millions of gay, lesbian and transgender citizens and represents a huge shift for gay rights in the developing world.

| A victory for gay rights in India |
The Delhi high court's decriminalisation of homosexuality is the first step towards equal rights for gay Indians
A protracted legal battle has finally come to an end. In a landmark ruling, the Delhi high court scrapped parts of Section 377, a colonial law that criminalised gay sex – and indeed anything other than heterosexual vaginal intercourse – in India. Hence, consensual sex involving two adults of the same sex can no longer be a criminal offence.
